Media Room Design (Residential Space)

Concept Design Statement:
This design is for a family of five, who owns an Eichler style house in San Mateo.  The parents are a married couple who are in their 40’s.  The children are two boys (aged 6 and 8) and a daughter (age 11).The media room is the newest addition space that is added onto the back of the house. The media room is a new addition to the house and was built to maintain the Eichler styling. The room is a 400 square foot space with triple-paned glass on two walls. The windows are nearly floor to ceiling with 9” of wall at the top, bottom and sides. The entrance of the space is located on the west wall to avoid distraction while someone is watching a movie or playing video games. The windows located on the south and east walls are equipped with blackout shades. The bar area includes a dining area, fridge, sink, prep space and storage area. There is a bench near that area to give someone the option of watching a movie lying down while they’re in the bar area. The island in the dining area is facing the screen, where the family can enjoy the movie while having a drink or eating. The seats in the home theater area is a recliner that reclines back as well as turning into a bed in case if someone wanted to lay down completely while watching the TV. The recessed incandescent located on the screen wall (north wall) beautifully lights up grains on the cabinetry. The home theater is equipped with a 110’’ UHDTV by Samsung along with a Bose Lifestyle Home Theater system. There is also recessed incandescent lighting right above the sectional which also lights up the island in the bar area.
